Full Job Description: Lead Electrician
Under the general supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Lead Electrician oversees and coordinates electrical activities within the Facilities & Construction Services Department. This position directs the work of electricians, plans and executes department projects, and ensures the proper maintenance and care of campus buildings and grounds.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides work direction to other journey level trades staff and participates in journey-level electrical trade work with other assigned staff engaged in installing, maintaining, modifying, and repairing a variety of electrical systems and equipment related to light, heat, and power at a college.
- Schedules and oversees the work of journey-level workers and other assigned staff engaged in installation, maintenance, alteration, and repair work on a variety of electrical systems and equipment such as conduits, cogeneration systems, meters, panels, control boards, lights, fans, heaters, fire alarms, bell and buzzer systems, field lighting systems, clock systems, switchgear, and wall, floor, and ceiling receptacles.
- Determines the most efficient work procedures and techniques for assigned staff to ensure timely completion of electrical projects and makes sure that safety standards and procedures are followed.
- Installs interior and exterior wiring for equipment and appliances ,bends conduits, cuts, drills, and channels concrete floors and walls for conduits and related installations or repairs.
- Performs electrical work such as rewiring or replacing lamps on lighting poles at athletic fields, parking lots, and other District facilities.
- Estimates job costs, prepares material lists and job records, and maintains an inventory of supplies and tools for the assigned area.
- Provides supervisor with technical input on electrical work concerning planned construction and work ongoing projects.
- Inputs and edits interior and exterior lighting schedules using the Energy Management System (EMS).
- Assists in planning and developing modifications and repairs to existing electrical systems; including but not limited to Lighting Controls (EMS) and Fire Life Safety Systems.(

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduation from high school or equivalent.
- Six years of recent, full-time, paid experience in electrical work under the supervision of a journeyman or craft supervisor
- Including four years at the journey-level and/or holding a journeyman Electrician Card.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- State of California Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) Electrician Certification
- Hours towards the certification must have been in two of the following categories: troubleshooting and maintenance, commercial wiring, or fire/life/safety.
- One year of experience in a lead capacity.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES - May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills and abilities commonly associated with this position.
- Understanding of various electrical systems, including light, heat, and power.
- Ability to act as a lead and oversee the work of a group of journey-level workers and assigned staff.
- Proficiency in scheduling, planning, and ensuring the timely completion of electrical projects while maintaining safety standards.
- Capability to lay out, assemble, install, test, maintain, and repair electrical fixtures and apparatus.
- Expertise in troubleshooting high, regular, and low-voltage electrical problems.
- Competence in estimating job costs, preparing material lists, maintaining job records, and inventory management.
- Proficiency in installing and repairing conduits, wiring, boxes, switches, fixtures, and various electrical systems.
- Ability to inspect facilities for maintenance and safety issues related to electrical systems and equipment.
- Ability to provide technical input to supervisors and assisting in planning and developing modifications to electrical systems.
- Skill in developing job specifications, diagrams, and drawings related to electrical work.
