Job Description
The Facilities Services Department is responsible for the maintenance and operations of all campus facilities which includes buildings, grounds, and utility systems. The Electrician II installs, operates, and maintains electrical systems and equipment for the UT Knoxville Campus. This position also works as necessary to aid contractors and other craft disciplines. The Electrician II will also train craft assistants as needed. This position provides good customer service to internal and external customers and will support electrical needs for events and special occasions.
Responsibilities
- Pulling wire and making up panel boards and other electrical equipment Bending, threading, and installing conduit as necessary
- Maintains lighting systems and controls of various types.
- Maintains panelboards and switchboards of various types and sizes.
- Maintains transformers, motors, and generators.
- Troubleshooting, maintaining, and installing electrical systems and related components.
- Working special events, continuing educations, assisting contractors and other crafts, etc.
- Studying blueprints, taking off materials, and picking up materials for projects.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Education:
- High school diploma or GED
- Vocational Technical training in a related field including the completion of trade school or apprenticeship program
- Experience: Four (4) years of experience or an equivalent combination of education. Education may be substituted for experience on a year-to-year basis.
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- A good working knowledge of electrical systems.
- Ability to read blueprints and choose materials.
- Ability to work on live electrical components when necessary.
- Ability to climb ladders, work in confined spaces, under adverse conditions, and in high places.
- Ability to perform hard physical work for long periods.
- Good hand and eye coordination.
- Mechanical aptitude and good knowledge of industrial electricity.
- Other conditions:
- Valid Driver's license
- Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without need now or in the future for sponsorship for employment visa status.

UT Facilities Services is responsible for the care and keeping of more than 300 facilities and utilities systems in and around Knoxville.
