Job Description

The Great Basin College (GBC) Career and Technical Education Department is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Electrical Technology Instructor to expand and enhance our existing program. This position offers the opportunity to develop and launch a new hybrid Electrical Technology program, combining online coursework with hands-on lab instruction to provide students with a flexible and comprehensive learning experience.

This is a full-time, year-round (A-contract), non-tenure position based in Winnemucca, Nevada, with occasional travel within GBC's service area. This instructor position is to work with an established Industrial Electrical program, strongly supported by local industry. The successful candidate will teach a variety of courses focusing on electrical theory, motor controls, Programmable Logic control (PLC), transformers, lighting systems and more. The individual will contribute to curriculum development and delivery in cooperation with existing electrical faculty, based on emerging technologies, industry need and industry standards. As an instructor, the incumbent will teach basic and advanced electrical courses in both the traditional and distance education environments.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and teach classes in all aspects of Industrial Electrical Technology.
  • Supervise students in classroom and laboratory settings.
  • Perform all expected duties of GBC faculty members, such as committee participation, student advising, and required duties expected of faculty.
  • Direct and assess students' progress in achieving required competencies.
  • Interact with mining and industry partners to enhance community partnerships.
  • Teach evening and distance education classes.
  • Handle administrative responsibilities related to teaching and program support.
  • Participate in college activities and committees.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications
  • Associate's degree or higher in Electrical Technology or a related field.
  • Electrical training and certification.
  • Experience in, or significant knowledge of: curriculum design, student supervision, instructional methodology, testing and evaluation, educational psychology, academic advising.
  • Ability to work as a team member with genuine spirit of cooperation and flexibility.
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office products.
  • Experience with electrical applications in an industrial setting is critical.
  • Experience in Alternative educational delivery methods or willingness to learn alternative delivery methodology.
  • Evidence of ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from regionally accredited institution in an electrical or related field preferred.
  • Teaching experience in a community college or technical education setting.
  • Five years of practical experience in career and technical education strongly preferred
  • Experience with online learning platforms, particularly Canvas (LMS).
  • Familiarity with distance education and hybrid instructional methods.


Travel

The position may require driving to other GBC campuses, with or without reasonable accommodation as per the Americans with Disabilities Act, with possible overnight stays to coordinate students and programs throughout the service area. There must be a commitment to the GBC mission to serve rural Nevada. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in several state-wide or national meetings each year that require overnight travel.

Compensation Grade

Academic Faculty - 1

This is a 12 month "A" contract position, 12 month contracts are used for year round programs.

The budgeted salary range for this position is $60,000 - $85,000

Salary is based on relatable education and experience, internal equity and budgets.

Grants-in-aid for Faculty Employees

Great Basin College is proud to provide a reduced-rate tuition benefit to faculty and qualified dependents. Faculty can take up to six credits per semester at a reduced rate. Dependents of faculty have unlimited credits, but in order to be eligible children must be unmarried and under the age of 24 and must receive at least 50% of their financial support from the employee and/or employee's spouse or domestic partner.

Transcripts

Newly hired faculty must assure that their official transcripts are sent by the degree granting institution(s) to Great Basin College Human Resources Office within 30 days from the effective date of employment. Regionally accredited institutions must have awarded academic degrees.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Any expense related to the evaluation will be the responsibility of the candidate.
