Bucknell University is currently hiring an Electrical Supervisor who will be responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising electrical construction and maintenance projects. In this role, the Electrical Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the Electrical Shop and ensures the proper maintenance and preventative care of campus-wide electrical systems, including emergency generators, life safety systems, transformers, switchgear, and specialized equipment such as that used in dining facilities. The successful candidate will serve as a key liaison between Facilities and the campus community, by working closely with various departments to coordinate electrical needs for both indoor and outdoor events-ranging from athletic competitions and Homecoming to Commencement and other university functions. This role ensures that the appropriate electrical support is provided to meet event requirements efficiently and safely. As a technical expert, the Electrical Supervisor advises staff and collaborates with key university groups, including Planning, Design, and Construction (PD&C). The position also manages external electrical contractors during periods of high demand to augment the internal team's capacity. In addition, the Electrical Supervisor designs and executes small-scale electrical projects, ensuring compliance with code requirements and university standards. This includes specifying and procuring materials, coordinating contractors, and delivering projects within established timelines.

Reporting Relationships:

Reports to Associate Director, Electrical Systems & Projects. Directly supervises electricians and electronics technicians.

Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm, and as needed to handle emergencies.

This position is classified as part of essential services. Employees in this role must report to work even if campus has a delayed opening, early closing, or is closed, unless instructed otherwise by a supervisor; or when the individual has concerns related to their personal safety.

What You Will Do:
  • Preventative & Corrective Maintenance: Manage day to day preventive and corrective maintenance tasks for Electrical Shop. Manage all electrical projects executed by inhouse staff and contractors. Successful management of maintenance tasks and projects will include, meeting customer needs and project timelines, while adhering to University policies and design standards. Support and promote Bucknell's sustainability and energy conservation efforts. Work closely with Supervisor and staff to identify, analyze and quantify potential energy conservation ideas and designs and execute projects and repairs to improve systems. Assist Supervisor in establishing predictive/preventive maintenance procedures for electrical equipment and generate preventive maintenance work orders.
  • Technical Lead: Serve as the primary contact for all electrical and life safety system related emergencies during normal work hours as well as off hours. Serve as a technical resource for trades staff and Facilities administration. As needed, assist the Planning, Design and Construction (PD&C) group on large renovations and new construction projects including specifying electrical equipment and construction materials, participating in design discussion/blueprint reviews and executing building/project outages and start-ups. Manage/maintain spare parts inventory and order parts to ensure repairs are made in a timely manner.
  • Employee Management: Manage personnel related functions for Electrical Shop staff including time/absence approval and performance evaluation administration and merit recommendations. Enforce work rules, rules of conduct, performance standards and University and department policies, procedures and regulations. Train or direct training of personnel for safe work practices as well develop their maximum effectiveness and potential.
  • System Management: Utilize Facilities CMMS system to manage work order backlog, equipment information and preventive maintenance program for Electrical Shop. Review completed work orders to ensure actions taken to resolve the issue were correct and timely, complete work orders in a timely manner, and ensure labor costs are accurately assigned to the work order. Manage the maintenance, programming, upgrades, etc. of campus' Simplex addressable life safety and card access systems. Work closely with Public Safety regarding maintenance/repair of existing and installation of new card access system.

What You Will Bring:

Required:
  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • At least five years of related commercial or institutional experience in electrical construction/troubleshooting/preventive maintenance.
  • A valid driver's license.


Preferred, But Not Required:
  • Supervisory experience
  • Associate's Degree in an Electrical field.


Knowledge Areas & Skills:

  • Working knowledge of the means, techniques, and sequences of residential, commercial and institutional electrical construction, maintenance, preventive maintenance techniques and repair.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA and National Electrical Code, as well as addressable life safety systems and competence in high voltage maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications for electrical and life safety systems.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social (diversity and inclusiveness), economic, and environmental sustainability.

    Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to travel through buildings and grounds throughout campus including climbing stairs and ladders, using walkways, working on roofs and entering/exiting trenches, crawl spaces, confined spaces.
  • Must use proper safety equipment for hearing, head, eye, feet, hand and body protection.
  • Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Position works indoors and outdoors with occasional exposure to a wide range of environmental conditions, including heat, noise, dust, and dirt, and emergency situations.

    The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate's credentials compared to the qualifications of the position, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy.
