About the Position:

This role is an on-campus, in-person position.

Under direct supervision, this position performs apprenticeship level work in the installation, maintenance, and repairs of the electrical systems, all electrical fixtures and equipment following the recognized procedures and techniques of the electrical trade.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist in the repairs, installs, replaces and tests electrical circuits, equipment and appliances using the necessary hand tools and testing instruments.

  • Assist inspects and tests electrical lighting, power circuits and equipment.
  • Assist in isolating defects in wiring, switches, motors, and other electrical equipment using suitable testing instruments.
  • Assists in examining and testing all elements of electrical systems to locate obvious faults, such as blown fuses, short circuits, broken wires, and loose connections.
  • Replaces faulty switches, sockets, plugs, fuses, insulators and other elements of electrical systems, fixtures and appliances.
  • Assist by renewing circuits in the form of isolating and/or cutting out the defective wiring and replacing with new wiring or splicing.
  • Provide functional/operational support to campus as essential personnel during times of emergency, catastrophe, inclement weather, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Preferably an Associate's degree.

A minimum of a year of electrical trade experience or equivalent experience on-the-job training pertaining to maintenance and/or construction is required.

Must posses TX Electrician apprentice license and TX driver's license.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must demonstrate basic knowledge of codes pertaining to maintenance and installation of electrical systems. Must also have a basic knowledge of electricity such as conduit bending, ladder and scaffolding safety, wire pulling, and the proper operation of metering equipment and various hand tools. Candidate must be able to work indoors and outside in different weather conditions. Candidate must demonstrate basic knowledge of Word, Excel and ability to manage CMMS.

Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills. Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills.

Shift flex is required for evenings and weekends. Schedules may be adjusted to accommodate coverage for 1st & 2nd shifts during weekdays and/or weekends for temporary or permanent shift changes. Required to respond to emergency calls.
