Job Summary:
The Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering (CSEE) at Eastern Washington University (EWU) invites applications for a Clinical Teaching Faculty (assistant or associate) of practice in Cybersecurity. This is a 2-year (academic year) contract position eligible for renewal. Position has the possibility to begin January 2025. (winter quarter).
The Department of CSEE is one of two four-year NSA National Centers for Academic Excellence in Cyber defense in the state of Washington and offers academic programs leading to bachelors and masters degrees: a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science Cyber Operations, a Bachelor of Science Cyber Operations, an ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering, and a Master of Science in computer Science. The program has recently received a significant investment by the state of Washington and is anticipating substantial growth in the coming years.
Cybersecurity is contained within Computer Science. Cybersecurity/Computer Science has 10 faculty members and approximately 400 undergraduate and 10 master students. The department resides in the catalyst Building located in downtown Spokanes University District. This facility is a public-private partnership with the regional tech industry to create a high-tech hub for innovation and entrepreneurship. It offers our students and faculty outstanding opportunities for collaboration with regional industry and other universities.
Clinical Assistant and Clinical Associate teaching faculty are expected to actively participate in curriculum development, assessment of student learning, advising of students, facilitate relevancy between department curriculum and industry needs, engage in service, effective teaching, including teaching practices, and interactions with students to support retention and a culture of belonging.
The expected salary per academic year upon hire for Clinical Assistant teaching faculty is $73,537 and for Clinical Associate teaching faculty $95,516. - Master of Science degree or PhD in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, closely related discipline, or other appropriate discipline degree with experience in teaching cybersecurity is required at the time of appointment.
- Minimum of three years recent industry/clinical experience in cybersecurity.
- Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching Cybersecurity/Computer Science coursework.
- Teaching experience
- Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal access, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public.
Required Qualification: (Associate Salary: $95,516)
- Master of Science degree or PhD in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, closely related discipline, or other appropriate discipline degree with experience in teaching cybersecurity is required at the time of appointment.
- Minimum of six years of relevant teaching and professional experience in cybersecurity.
- Superior contributions to a teaching program as well as recognition for excellence in cybersecurity and innovation in cybersecurity.
- Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal access, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public.

Job Duties:
A faculty Activity Plan will be developed by the end of the first quarter of the selected candidates appointment and will consist of a combination of teaching, service and/or release time to perform duties, as negotiated and as needed to meet the business needs of the department.Additionally, all faculty are expected to:
- Engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning;
- Meet all scheduled classes;
- Plan, organize and inform students of the course content, texts, readings, assignments, attendance regulations and methods of evaluation including grading scales;
- Schedule and attend office hours;
- Turn in grades according to established deadlines;
- Advise students who are declared majors on department, college and University requirements and career opportunities;
- Supervise students in laboratory and simulated learning experiences;
- Collaborate with faculty to design high-quality focused experiential learning activities;
- Facilitate relevancy between department curriculum and industry needs.
Conditions of Employment:
- This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value; as well as the unsupervised access with developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.
- All new employees must comply with EWU immunization Policy 602-02 and provide proof of immunity or vaccination to MMR before beginning work at EWU. Waivers for the immunization requirements are available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs.
