Job Summary:
The Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering (CSEE) at Eastern Washington University (EWU) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in Cybersecurity. Position begins September 2026.

EWUs Cybersecurity Program is housed within the Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering and has been designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense by the NSA. We offer several academic programs, including:
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science Cyber Operations
  • ABET accredited Bachelor of Science in Computer Science
  • Master of Science in Cybersecurity

Additional graduate programs are in development.

Our growing department includes 13 faculty and serves approximately 400 undergraduates and 15 graduate students. With recent strategic investment from the state of Washington, our Cybersecurity program is expanding rapidly. We are looking for collaborative faculty who are excited to help shape the next phase of our growth - both in research and graduate education.

The salary for this position is $101,170 (Assistant) and $91,085 (Associate). In addition to salary, the university offers a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, life and disability insurance and retirement. Required Qualifications:
Required Qualifications for Assistant Professor
  • A PhD, DSc, or equivalent in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or closely related discipline by the appointment start date.
  • Evidence of potential for excellence in teaching Cybersecurity/Computer Science at all levels.
  • Evidence of potential for scholarly productivity and innovation in research.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a responsive and flexible approach that is supportive of the needs including universal access of our students, faculty, staff and the public.

Required Qualifications for Associate Professor
  • A PhD, DSc, or equivalent in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or closely related discipline by the appointment start date.
  • Established record of excellence in teaching, research, and scholarly productivity (e.g., peer-reviewed publications)
  • Demonstrated use of inclusive and culturally competent practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a responsive and flexible approach that is supportive of the needs including universal access of our students, faculty, staff and the public.


Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications for Assistant Professor
  • Specialization or teaching experience in areas such as digital forensics, malware analysis, aerospace/vehicle security, power grid security, penetration testing, or AI in cyber defense/offense.
  • Record of teaching or mentorship that fosters belonging in the field of cybersecurity or computer science.

Preferred Qualifications for Associate Professor
  • Evidence of expertise and scholarly contributions in cybersecurity fields such as: digital forensics, malware analysis, aerospace/vehicle security, power grid security, penetration testing, or AI in cyber defense/offense.
  • Evidence of successful grant writing.
  • Experience fostering inclusive learning or research environments.

Job Duties:
A Faculty Activity Plan will be developed by the end of the first quarter of the selected candidates appointment, and will consist of a combination of teaching, research, service, and/or release time to perform administrative duties, as negotiated and as needed to meet the business needs of the department.Additionally, all faculty are expected to engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning.
  • Meet all scheduled classes;
  • Engage in responsive teaching practices that support all students;
  • Plan, organize and inform students of the course content, texts, readings, assignments, attendance regulations and methods of evaluation including grading scales;
  • Schedule and attend office hours;
  • Turn in grades according to established deadlines;
  • Advise students who are declared majors on department, college and University requirements and career opportunities.

Conditions of Employment:
This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value, as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.
